Record: 4-7-2

Esteban Vasquez, world languages faculty:

Challenges: “At first, the transition between the fall and winter sports seasons was a challenge, especially with the athletes from cross country because they did so well and we needed them. Another challenge, I felt, was finding our groove […]. Everyone seems to know what to do now and they have a better understanding of the game and our style of soccer.”

Note: Many cross-country athletes were not present at the beginning of the WSC soccer season due to their competition in CIF.

Successes: “A success was saving the option to play at different positions at different games and different times. A game against St. Margarets is not the same as a game against Samueli, and I was able to find different openings and different options for players. Some defenders moved up and some forwards dropped back, so we were able to have different formations at different times which turned out to be beneficial.”

Highlight Athlete: “Its Jimmie’s [McCloud] (‘22) senior year. He plays as a forward for us and he has three goals and five assists in eight games, so he is very active. In past seasons, he has had issues with injuries, so we have focused on injury prevention this season to make sure he is in an optimal position.”

Jimmie McCloud (‘22):

Challenges: “One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced this season is being regular and being competitive as a team. We’ve had great games, for example, the game against St. Margarets, and we’ve had terrible games, for example, against Avalon—which we should have won.

Successes: “I feel like we are playing more and more confidently as a team, and we are not scared to play against anybody. Personally, I have been getting better at giving the ball to my teammates and playing as a part of a team.”

Favorite Memory: “My favorite memory was probably our win against Samueli, eight to one, at home.”
